Researchers at California State University and the Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea have developed a radar system that can detect subminiature drones that are up to 3 kilometers (nearly 2 miles) away.

The drone detection radar system operates between 12GHz and 18GHz, and locates drones through the use of an Active Electronically Scanned Array radar technology to increase the maximum detection distance of the system.

The radar system also can identify and detect drones more clearly in real time by integrating drone cognition technology based on generative adversarial networks, next-generation deep learning artificial intelligence algorithms that produce data through self-teaching on small amounts of data.
