Website Rates Security of Internet-Connected Devices

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill performed security assessments of issues various Internet-connected devices.

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill performed security assessments of issues various Internet-connected devices, which are now available on a new website.

The site, https://yourthings.info, features rankings of 45 devices on their security capabilities, to help consumers understand the important issues before connecting a new Internet of Things (IoT) device to their home networks. The researchers awarded each device a score ranging from 28 (a failing grade) up to 100.

Said Georgia Tech researcher Omar Alrawi, "There are some devices that do security really well, and other manufacturers should learn from those exemplary devices."
