Drone Registration Made Compulsory as U.K. Scheme Launches
The U.K. is instituting a new mandatory national registration scheme that requires drone users to pass an online test and pay a 9 annual fee, or face a 1,000 fine.

A new mandatory national registration scheme calls for drone users in the U.K. to pass an online test and pay a £9 annual fee, or face a £1,000 fine.
Owners must identify and label all drones by Nov. 30, and operators must pass a test on legal and safe drone usage before they can fly their devices.
About 130,000 people will have to pay and register by the deadline, according to Civil Aviation Authority estimates.
The new rules call for all drones weighing more than 250 grams (about a half-pound) to be registered and labeled with a unique license number.
Said Rob Hunter, who is head of flight safety for the British Airline Pilots Association, "This is another measure to encourage responsible drone operation, which is desperately needed to ensure a collision between an aircraft and a drone is avoided."
