South African software developers working in the fintech and cloud services sectors are the most highly paid developers, earning an average of R65,000 to R70,000 per month, according to the “2019 State of South Africa's Software Developers Nation” report compiled by tech talent marketplace OfferZen.

The report describes the software developer community in South Africa based on more than 4,000 survey responses. Respondents shared their experiences of what it is like to work in South Africa, what programming languages and tech stacks they enjoy most, and what is most important to them when looking for a job.

Among the reports findings was that software has become a multiplier for business growth, showing that when tech teams work on solutions that matter, companies thrive.

The report also found that the younger developers start learning to code, the more they earn over the course of their careers.
