U.S. Dairy Farmers Look for Any Tech Edge in Fight to Survive
Technology has played an important role in agriculture for years, but it has become a life and death matter at dairy farms.

U.S. dairy farmers are using technology to boost efficiency and control costs amid low milk prices and Americans buying less milk. A project at the University of Wisconsin (UW) Madison would integrate all the data farms collect each day on cow production, feed, and health, and using artificial intelligence and machine learning on the resulting data to help farmers make the best decisions.
UW Madison's Victor Cabrera has been collecting data from five farms for that project, and expects to have it completed in three years. Matt Wichman of Wisconsin’s Rosendale Dairy said the use of technology tools in dairy farming is “becoming so economically viable that anybody that’s of a decent scale is adopting these.”
