A team of researchers at the University of Tehran in Iran has developed a fourth version of the Surena humanoid robotic system. Surena IV can track objects more accurately than previous iterations, and new hands give it better dexterity.
These advances allow the system to manipulate a wide variety of objects, including delicate ones, as well as operate power tools. Surena IV is also equipped with custom forces sensors on the bottom of its feet that help it step over uneven surfaces by adjusting the angle and position of each foot; Surena IV can walk at a speed of 0.7 kilometers per hour, up from 0.3 km/h in the previous generation.
The robot as a total of 43 degrees of freedom, 12 more than Surena III.
