This App Lets You See IoT Devices Around You and What Data They're Taking
A new app can help you learn what data an Amazon Echo Studio in a public place is collecting.

Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have developed the Internet of Things Assistant app that will let users know what Internet of Things (IoT) technologies are operating in the immediate vicinity and what data they are collecting.
The app and its infrastructure aim to give users more control over the devices that track activity and information. The General Data Protection Regulation in Europe and the California Consumer Privacy Act require that companies keep citizens informed about the data being collected on them.
Said Carnegie Mellon researcher Norman Sadeh, "We have built an infrastructure that enables owners of IoT technologies to comply with these laws, and an app that takes advantage of this infrastructure to empower people to find out about and control data collected by these technologies."
