Biotech Companies Tap AI to Speed Path to Coronavirus Treatments
Pharmaceutical companies increasingly using artificial intelligence to speed their efforts to discover drugs that can treat humans infected with coronavirus.

Companies seeking treatments for the coronavirus increasingly are using artificial intelligence (AI) to speed up their drug-discovery efforts in hopes of identifying drug prospects to test on humans within months.
Said Robert Murphy of Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science, "This is a rapidly developing situation, and we firmly believe that AI-driven experimentation is the right approach for these kinds of problems, to speed up the process."
Companies including Insilico Medicine, Vir Biotechnology, and Atomwise are employing machine- earning algorithms to analyze vast chemical datasets to predict the effects of potential treatments on the human body,in an effort to narrow down to the most promising chemical compounds.
Insilico, for instance, is using the AI techniques of generative adversarial networks, which create molecules that bind to proteins, and reinforcement learning, which guides the molecules to specific objectives.
