Australia's Pawsey Supercomputing Center and quantum-computing hardware startup Quantum Brilliance have announced a new quantum-supercomputing innovation hub, to cultivate quantum expertise among Pawsey staff in order to set up a quantum emulator and collaborate with other Australian scientists.
Quantum Brilliance is using diamond to develop quantum systems that function at room temperature, which company CEO Andrew Horsley said would dramatically reduce the size of quantum computers.
Meanwhile, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) has released a roadmap for Australia's quantum technology industry.
CSIRO CEO Larry Marshall sees quantum computing as an important driver of a sustainable Australian technology sector, with the potential to contribute more than AU$2.5 billion ($1.6 trillion) to the economy each year.
The roadmap calls for establishing a national quantum technology strategy, securing top quantum talent, investigating efficient and effective funding mechanisms, and evaluating industry capabilities and infrastructure facilities.
