DGCA Nod Clears Runway for the Dawn of Drone Age
Indias civil aviation regulator is permitting 13 consortia to test fly beyond visual line of sight drones.

India's Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given approval to a group of 13 companies to test fly beyond visual line of sigh (BVLOS) drones.
The tests, which will feature unmanned aerial vehicles either carrying payloads or surveying large areas of land, are likely to begin the first week in July.
The consortium of companies that received approval for BVLOS drone tests will need to register at least 100 hours of flight time in airspace designated by the Airports Authority of India, by the end of September.
Those logs must be submitted to the DGCA, which will use the data to develop a policy for BVLOS drones by the end of this year.
"Once they (the consortia) complete their flights and submit their logs, then we can really understand what will need to be the specifications required for BVLOS," according to a senior government official.
