EU Sanctions Russian Intelligence, North Korean, Chinese Firms Over Alleged Cyberattacks
The European Union has targeted the Russian military intelligence service, and North Korean and Chinese companies with sanctions for alleged cyberattacks.

The European Union (EU) announced sanctions against the Russian military intelligence service, and North Korean and Chinese companies, for alleged cyberattacks.
In its first ever sanctions related to cybercrime, the bloc charged the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation with targeting European companies with cyberattacks in June 2017, and with previous attacks against Ukraine's power grid in 2015 and 2016.
The EU also sanctioned North Korea's Chosun Expo on suspicion of backing the Lazarus Group, a hacking organization suspected to have orchestrated the world's largest act of cyberfraud in 2016 with the $81-million heist of Bangladesh Bank's account at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Also sanctioned was China's Haitai Technology Development, accused of supporting exploits designed to steal commercially sensitive data from multinationals worldwide.
