Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Vector, the New Zealand electricity and gas distribution company, have partnered to develop an Internet of Things (IoT) and analytics solution for the energy sector.

The New Energy Platform (NEP) aims to deliver more affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy options to customers across Australia and New Zealand and help energy and utilities companies boost uptake of renewables and electric vehicles.

Powered by AWS, the NEP initially will focus on rapidly collecting and analyzing data on energy consumption and network performance from more than 1.6 million Vector IoT-connected advanced meters.

The data will be used to create tailored product and pricing solutions based on customers' energy consumption habits.

Said Vector's Simon Mackenzie, "Our vision is for the NEP to transform the energy industry by using data to inform innovation and product development."
