Amazon's Cloud Unit to Offer Quantum Computing From Three Tech Companies

Amazon's cloud unit announced a commercial service allowing millions of customers to tinker with early-stage quantum computing platforms from D-Wave System, IonQ, and Rigetti Computing.
Amazon Web Services customers can avail themselves of these platforms through the Amazon Braket service, and the platforms follow different technological approaches.
IonQ's offering involves light and small particles to operate its quantum chip, while D-Wave and Rigetti power their chips with superconducting quantum bits.
Amazon Braket general manager Richard Moulds said developers can use the same programming framework to craft algorithms that run on the three platforms.
Chirag Dekate at technology research firm Gartner said, "What Amazon has done is put their stake in the ground. They are trying to do as much as possible without physically owning a quantum computer."
