The U.K. National Health Service's (NHS) Covid-19 contact tracing app hit 10 million downloads just four days after its release.

The app uses Bluetooth signals to register encounters between users, automatically warning them if they have come in close contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 and triggering a 14-day countdown for them to isolate.

The app offers assistance in scheduling a test from NHS. It also features a separate "check-in" tool to help businesses in the hospitality sector record customer and staff contact details as required.

usinesses can download an official QR code that is presented to visitors to register the location's details on their phones, which will enable warnings to be sent to users if the business experiences an outbreak.

NHS confirmed that it has fixed a flaw that prevented patients from logging their positive test results in the app.
