Tunisian startup Cure Bionics has developed a three-dimensionally (3D)-printed solar-powered bionic hand, in the hope of helping amputees and other disabled people throughout Africa.
The device uses sensors attached to the arm that detect muscle movements, while artificial intelligence-assisted software reads these signals to transmit instructions to the fingers.
The hand features a wrist that can turn sideways, a mechanical thumb, and digits that bend at the joints in response to electronic impulses.
The prosthetic is customizable for children and youths, who otherwise need a series of resized models as they mature.
