The Sundance Film Festival is giving attendees access to a virtual reality (VR) platform that can be accessed with or without a VR headset with a $25 Explorer Pass and by logging onto a website.

Attendees with a VR headset will enjoy an immersive WebXR experience, developed with the creative studio Active Theory.

Attendees will have access to the Film Party room, where they can chat with nearby attendees, and those with PCs can fill the head of the basic VR avatar with a live video feed.

Although attendees will not be able to view the festival's entire slate of films and documentaries in VR, five special features will be shown in a fully realized VR theater, the Cinema House, which aims to replicate a real theater experience.

Sundance also will offer 14 New Frontier exhibitions, including one featuring the International Space Station.
