An analysis of federal jobs data by information technology (IT) trade group CompTIA found the IT field saw the fourth straight month of job growth in March, with U.S. employers adding 50,000 enterprise-technology workers.
This growth accompanied continued corporate investment in technology, like cloud-based business processes that support remote work.
CompTIA said software and application developers, IT support specialists, and systems engineers and architects led IT employment gains last month, while the unemployment rate for tech workers hit 1.9%, its lowest since August 2019.
The group also estimated that U.S. employers posted 30,000 new IT positions in March, increasing the running total to over 300,000 vacancies.
Matthew Charlet at IT research and consulting firm Gartner credited IT jobs' greater resilience compared to broader labor jobs to companies' pursuit of skilled employees to manage digital efforts to support remote workers and maintain operations amid pandemic restrictions.
