NYPD Robot Dog's Run is Cut Short After Fierce Backlash

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has abruptly terminated its deployment of a robot dog after several incidents prompted allegations of invasive surveillance and overreach.
Promoted as a life-saving tool that could enter areas too dangerous for police, the Digidog drew outrage when it was deployed as part of a response to a home invasion in the Bronx, and more recently at a public housing building in Manhattan.
The NYPD responded to a subpoena from New York City officials requesting records related to the device by canceling its leasing contract with robot developer Boston Dynamics. Police official John Miller said the four-legged, stair-climbing robot was more agile than other robots the department has employed, adding that it has become "a casualty of politics, bad information, and cheap sound bites."
