Researchers at Sweden's KTH Royal Institute of Technology have developed integrated chips that can produce light particles on demand at room temperature.

KTH's Ali Elshaari said the technique enables photon emitters to be precisely positioned in integrated optical circuits that convey light.

The researchers tapped the single-photon-emitting traits of hexagonal boron nitride, which they integrated with silicon nitride waveguides to direct the emitted photons.
