The Star Formation in Gaseous Environments (STARFORGE) model simulates stars' birth with unmatched realism.
Developed by astrophysicists at Northwestern University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the California Institute of Technology, STARFORGE is the first simulation to simultaneously model star formation, evolution, and dynamics, while factoring in stellar feedback.
STARFORGE's creation involved incorporating computational code for multiple physical phenomena, and running simulations on a supercomputer at the Texas Advanced Computing Center.
Northwestern's Michazel Grudic said by understanding galaxy formation using tools like STARFORGE, "We can understand more about what the universe is made of."
