Ballet's Brave New World in VR
The Boston Ballet has commissioned three choreographers to create works entirely for performing in virtual reality.

The Boston Ballet commissioned three choreographers to develop original ballets designed for viewing entirely in virtual reality (VR).
The technology gives the audience total agency and allows viewers to see something differeent wherever they look.
Choreographer My’Kal Stromile treated the VR-enabled camera as another dancer and created a point-of-view experience for the audience by having the dancers pass round a handheld camera.
Said Stromile, "Each dancer has to dance the entire thing like it's a solo. Because at any moment, someone can choose to look at you the entire time."
The Scottish Ballet's Christopher Hampson expects VR to be integrated with haptics to create an experience of touch.
Meanwhile, the Alexander Whitley Company's Alexander Whitley is using artificial intelligence to allow audience members to control their own avatars and move with the dancers in what he calls "a highly participatory experience."
