Oil Giant Petrobras Launches Latin America's Largest Supercomputer
Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has launched Latin America's largest supercomputer as part of a plan to raise the company's in-house computing capacity to 40 petaflops by the end of this year.

Brazilian oil giant Petrobras has unveiled the Dragão supercomputer, the largest in Latin America, with 200 terabytes of RAM and a 100Gbps network.
Dragão is part of Petrobras' plan to boost in-house computing capacity to 40 petaflops by the end of this year.
The company indicated the supercomputer's processing capacity is "equivalent to 4 million smartphones or 1,000 modern laptops."
Petrobras' geophysicists and analysts will develop algorithms for use on the supercomputer related to exploratory projects, generating higher-resolution images, optimizing production processes, and lowering processing times.
Petrobras' Nicolás Simone said the supercomputer "reinforces our strategy to bring more economy, agility, safety and resilience to our operations, increasing the data processing capacity to support the business and add value to Petrobras."
