Alphabet subsidiary Wing has launched a drone delivery pilot program in Logan, Australia, flying items from the Grand Plaza shopping center's rooftop in partnership with Australian retail property group Vicinity Centers.
Up to now, businesses have had to co-locate their products at Wing's delivery facility, but the new initiative conducts deliveries from participating retailers' existing locations for the first time.
The drones have been delivering mostly food orders, and will now start transporting over-the-counter drugs and personal care and beauty products.
Wing drones have made 2,500 deliveries to several Logan suburbs in the program's first six weeks, and Wing's Jesse Suskin said the company will "potentially roll out similar models in other locations across Vicinity Centers' retail property portfolio" if the pilot is successful.
