U.S. farm equipment manufacturer John Deere and French agricultural robot startup Naio unveiled new technologies at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, including an autonomous plow and weeding machines.
John Deere's smartphone-controlled vehicle integrates a tractor, a plow, a global positioning system, and 360-degree cameras to constantly check its position and stop automatically when perceiving obstacles.
Naio's highlights include Ted, a robot that can step over vines to weed around plants, and turn around at the end of a row.
Also showcased by Naio was Oz, a robot that hoes, weeds, or furrows, and Dino, a row crop-weeding robot. These robots use sensors, lasers, cameras, or probes to understand their surroundings, and collect data useful to operators.
