Authentication services provider Okta has reported a hacker breach that may have impacted some of its customers, which include FedEx and Web infrastructure company Cloudflare.
Okta's David Bradbury said hackers accessed the computer of a customer support engineer working for a third-party contractor for five days in mid-January, and that "the potential impact to Okta customers is limited to the access that support engineers have."
He said clients do not need to take remedial action, and Okta is currently identifying and contacting those who may have been affected.
The hack's exact effect is not apparent, and Okta's statement follows screenshots of its internal communications posted by the Lapsus$ ransomware gang on their Telegram channel.
Some Okta clients are revisiting their security, while Dan Tentler at cybersecurity consultancy Phobos Group said customers should "be very vigilant right now."
