Workers Strike at Apple's Core in Unprecedented Industrial Action

Apple workers across the nation walked off the job on Tuesday, in the first nationally coordinated industrial action by retail workers in Australian history.
Staff protested at Apple stores in Brisbane, in the CBD and Chermside, and at Charlestown in Newcastle — the three stores with the highest percentage of Retail and Fast Food Workers Union members in the country — for an hour to demand a better deal on pay and conditions.
Union representatives have warned that Apple's new pay deal, introduced in August, would result in a real wage cut for workers and could result in their being rostered on for 60 hours in a week without overtime.
The company claimed its offer proposed minimum rates of pay that exceeded industry awards by 17 per cent and would improve scheduling and overtime provisions.
