Researchers at China's Xiamen University leveraged artificial intelligence (AI) to design an invisibility cloak that potentially could be used to conceal antennas and small communication devices from infrared light or microwave detectors.
They used AI to determine the ideal composition for their invisibility cloak, made from layers of a ceramic material and a boron and nitrogen compound.
The AI determined which cloak designs were best at stopping light from bouncing off them, altering such things as the thickness of the layers and the wavelengths of light.
Ultimateluy, the AI identified a design that, in computer simulations, was able to hide a cylindrical fiber with a diameter of 25 microns from microwaves, and another that was 6 centimeters wide from infrared light.
