Sony Group Corp. has announced a system of wearable motion trackers that may be worn on a user's wrists, ankles, head, and hips to animate avatars inside metaverse apps.

The Mocopi kit will be launched in Japan in January.

Said Sony's Takeshi Aimi, "We label this a metaverse product instead of a VR [virtual reality] peripheral, because we expect the virtual world to further blend with the real world. People will access the metaverse without head-mounted displays in the future, and we didn't want to limit the product's use to just VR users."
