Meta subsidiary Facebook announced a forthcoming test of age verification technologies in its Facebook Dating service in the U.S.
The company said it will broaden its alliance with online age verification provider Yoti to start confirming users' ages when it suspects they have falsified such information.
Facebook's artificial intelligence will send users an age verification prompt if it detects that someone younger than 18 may be attempting to use Facebook Dating.
Users can record a video selfie, which Yoti uses to estimate and verify age based on facial features, or they can upload their ID to Facebook.
Although Meta has not fully disclosed what signs it looks for to determine someone's age, it has previously said it may scan items like users' birthday posts, as friends often comment with the poster's true age in their responses.
