Computationally efficient mathematical models developed by researchers at the U.K.'s University of Bristol aim to improve the accuracy of flexible medical needles used in surgical simulation without adding unnecessary steps.
The models could improve training for junior surgeons and support the development of surgical robotic solutions.
Bristol's Athanasios Martsopoulos said, "The proposed algorithms are readily available for integration with such simulation solutions, and they aim to enhance their visual and haptic fidelity."
