Friend or Foe: Can Computer Coders Trust ChatGPT?
Developers say human code review will remain an integral part of programming.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools like the ChatGPT chatbot for coding has inspired both enthusiasm and reluctance among programmers.
Tony Smith, chief technology officer at U.K.-based Rightly, says AIs like ChatGPT have more pitfalls than advantages for software developers, as their code "is often flawed or inefficient." Other experts say AI-produced code can contain security defects, with ChatGPT possibly modeling bad behavior observed online, missing vulnerabilities, or using obsolete methods.
Matthew Hunt, a junior web developer at U.K.-based Herd, says that ChatGPT can accelerate JavaScript coding, but worries it could inhibit developers' growth by eliminating some of the satisfaction of developing.
