European technology company ASML Holding announced it will partner with Eindhoven Technical University (TU Eindhoven) in the Netherlands to establish a new research center.
TU Eindhoven said the facility is expected to produce 40 new Ph.D.s annually in fields related to semiconductor manufacturing such as nanomaterials, photonics, and quantum computing.
ASML is the leading global producer of lithography equipment, and has struggled to hire engineers amid a tight labor market.
ASML's Frans Raaijmakers said the center will have room for 500 scientists, while company spokeswoman Kelsey Zeegers said the project is part of a wider initiative to "cross-fertilize" Eindhoven-based technology firms and the university.
