Jack Dongarra at the U.S. Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has been elected to the National Academy of Sciences in recognition of his pioneering contributions to computing.
Dongarra was awarded the 2021 ACM A.M. Turing Award for his work on algorithms and libraries that allowed high-performance computational software to keep up with exponential hardware advances for more than 40 years.
He also is an ACM fellow, and has been a Turing Fellow at the U.K.'s University of Manchester since 2007.
Said ORNL's Jeff Smith, "Throughout his career, Jack has made contributions that have forever altered the computing community and multiple institutions, including ORNL. This is an incredible, well-deserved achievement, and we are proud to call Jack one of our own."
