ChatGPT4 can Recognize and Read People's Faces. OpenAI Worries it Makes AI Way Too Powerful
OpenAI's policy researcher, Sandhini Agarwal, says the company wants to engage in a transparent dialogue with the public regarding the integration of visual analysis capabilities into its chatbot.

OpenAI's ChatGPT, the popular AI-powered chatbot used for a variety of tasks, has evolved beyond just handling text. The latest version of ChatGPT, known as GPT-4, now includes a new interesting capability - Image analysis. Users can now not only interact with the bot using words but also utilize it to describe images, get questions about them, and even recognize the faces of specific individuals. The potential applications of this technology are promising, such as helping users identify and solve issues in images, like troubleshooting a broken-down car's engine or identifying a mysterious rash.
One of the early adopters of this advanced version is Jonathan Mosen, a blind employment agency CEO, who got a chance to experience the visual analysis feature during a trip. With the help of ChatGPT, he could recognise different dispensers in a hotel bathroom and learn their contents in detail, going beyond the capabilities of conventional image analysis software.
However, OpenAI is cautious about the potential risks associated with facial recognition. While the chatbot's visual analysis can identify only some public figures, the company is mindful of the ethical and legal concerns surrounding the usage of facial recognition technology, especially concerning privacy and consent. For this reason, the app has stopped providing information about people's faces to Mosen.
