AI Project Imagines Adult Faces of Children Who Disappeared During Argentina's Military Dictatorship

Argentine publicist Santiago Barros uses the Midjourney app to produce photos of what the children taken from their parents during Argentina's military dictatorship from 1976 to 1983 might look like today and uploads them to the "iabuelas" Instagram account.
These children, whose parents were political dissidents who disappeared during the dictatorship, typically were raised by families associated with the dictatorship or ideologically aligned with it.
The app uses artificial intelligence to combine photos of the disappeared fathers and mothers from the public archives of Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, an activist group that searches for missing children using DNA testing.
It produces two female and two male possibilities for each combination, with Barros choosing the most realistic photo of each gender.
