Private Equity Recruits Data-Science Talent as Industry Tackles Machine Learning

Private investment firms are ramping up hiring of data science professionals.

As private equity firms integrate machine learning and data analytics into their investment processes, they increasingly are turning to data science experts who can interpret data for investors and explain how the results can be used.

Said Joseph Healey at executive recruiter Korn Ferry, "If you are a person who knows data science and dealspeak, you are a special person, and your market value has increased."

Recruiters say private equity firms are poaching talent from consulting firms, large consumer product or technology companies, and academic institutions.

With median total cash compensation for data, analytics, and artificial intelligence roles in the U.S. financial services sector at $551,000 in 2021, private equity firms will have to pay to attract top talent.
