University of Texas at Austin's Siddarth Thakur has developed a robot that aims to assist firefighters by entering burning buildings to assess the scene, detect potential hazards, and determine whether people are inside.

FireBot is controlled remotely via tablet or smartphone, and can handle temperatures up to 1,832 degrees Fahrenheit and flames up to 10 feet due to the use of special alloys, insulation materials, and cooling technologies.

Priced at $90,000, FireBot will be made available through Thakur's Paradigm Robotics through purchase or lease via a Robotics-as-a-Service model.

The robot's projected lifespan is 10 years, making it more affordable than other options.
