A newly released version of OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot can interact with users vocally, as well as respond to images.

OpenAI claims ChatGPT's synthetic voices—available in five options, including male and female—are more natural-sounding than those of popular digital assistants, although homonyms can present difficulty.

The company said it would start rolling out the new version to all ChatGPT Plus subscribers over the next two weeks, though its vocal response is only enabled for iPhones, iPads, and Android devices.

When presented with images like photos and charts, the upgraded chatbot also can provide detailed descriptions and answer questions about image contents, which could be helpful for visually impaired users.
