California DMV Suspends Cruise Deployment, Testing Permits
Cruise can still operate vehicles in San Francisco, so long as a human safety driver is behind the wheel.

The California Department of Motor Vehicles suspended Cruise's autonomous-vehicle deployment and driverless testing permits Tuesday, after determining the company's vehicles "are not safe for the public's operations."
The decision follows high-profile incidents in which Cruise vehicles have interfered with emergency responders and been involved in two pedestrian-related collisions in recent months, the latter of which recently became the subject of a federal investigation.
DMV officials said Tuesday the suspension was based upon the vehicles' performance.
Further, they cited a regulatory provision that stated permits could be suspended if a "manufacturer has misrepresented any information related to safety of the autonomous technology" in explaining their decision.
