South Korea Allows Autonomous Robots to Use Sidewalks
South Korea's new regulation permits robots (including freight) to weigh up to 1,100 pounds, while limiting their speed to 9.3 mph, similar to the top speed of electric wheelchairs.

The South Korean government is allowing authorized autonomous robots to drive along the country's sidewalks.
The newly-enacted Intelligent Robots Act and other relevant regulations were put in place to allow autonomous robots to roam along with pedestrians, whereas before they required human operators to accompany their movements at all times.
The new regulations permit robots to weigh up to 1,100 pounds (including freight) and travel at up to 9.3 mph. If a robot ends up violating traffic laws, the fine is to be levied against its operator.
In addition for being used for last-mile deliveries, the robots are expected to help maintain security, with the National Police Agency aiming to introduce patrol robots next year.
