App to Help Older Adults Spot Online Scams

While there are many digital literacy tools available, most are not tailored to older adults, which limits their effectiveness.

Researchers at the University of Buffalo's Center for Information Integrity, in conjunction with Whitethorn Games and MenajErie Studio, developed an app intended to prevent elder fraud by helping older adults identify online scams.

Based on spy films, Deepcover partners users with Agent Darling, Agent Intrepid, or Agent Valiant, who act as their virtual guides through missions designed to improve their digital literacy.

To ensure the lessons are fun and engaging, concepts are explained in a game format; for instance, a tile-matching game is used to teach common cryptography terms.
