New York's Thomas J. Watson Research Lab houses the world's largest quantum computer system, IBM's Quantum System Two.
The 22-foot-wide, 15-foot high system, developed in conjunction with Map, Universal Design Studios, and Goppion, operates at a temperature only slightly above absolute zero and features three Quantum Heron processors.
IBM's Jay Gambetta said Heron's error rates and gate speeds outperform that of the 127-qubit Eagle by four to five times.
When IBM achieves a system that can execute 15,000 gates using 200 qubits by 2029, Gambetta said, "That'll be another era when we implement error correction."
