NVMe Consortium Polishes Its Specs to Support Computational Storage

The NVM Express consortium has updated its specifications by adding a Computational Storage Feature, creating a standardized way for applications to talk to storage devices that include some processing capability.

The NVM Express (NVMe) consortium has established a standardized method for applications to talk to storage devices with processing capabilities.

The new Computational Storage Feature extends the NVMe specifications for using solid state drives through a host computer's PCIe bus to support NVMe computational storage devices.

It includes new NVMe command sets for computational programs and subsystem local memory.
