Researchers at Australia's Edith Cowan University (ECU) used VR technology to gain insights into decision-making by criminals.

The study involved 101 participants role-playing crime scenarios and undergoing police interviews in a virtual interrogation room.

ECU's Shane Rogers said VR helped the participants in acting out the role of criminal and increased their motivation for lying in the follow-up interview.

Rogers added that VR could be used to train police in interviewing tactic, and allow suspects to be questioned in a virtual environment.
