Rapid 3D-Printing Technique Uses Liquid Metal

A 3D-printing technique developed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers increases printing speed by using liquid metal.

The liquid metal printing (LMP) process can produce large aluminum components in just minutes, compared with hours using existing techniques.

The process involves moving molten aluminum down a predefined path onto a bed of tiny glass beads that harden into a 3D structure.

The researchers used LMP to make table legs, chair frames, and other furniture parts.
