Smart Hat Senses When Traffic Lights Change

The hat senses when traffic lights change color and passes the information to a smartphone app.

This hat might look ordinary, but it can sense when traffic lights change color.

Flexible conductive fibers developed by researchers at Singapore's Nanyang Technological University can cool and contract without producing stress cracks, permitting them to be woven into cotton clothing.

Prototypes made with the fiber, which can stretch up to 10 kilometers, include a hat that can sense when traffic lights change color and notify a smartphone app, and a watch strap capable of detecting the user's heart rate.
