Researchers at Japan's University of Tokyo, Germany's Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU), and the Czech Republic's Palacký University Olomouc demonstrated that a laser-generated light pulse containing several photons can be used to build a photonic quantum computer.
JGU's Peter van Loock explained, "Our laser pulse was converted to a quantum optical state that gives us an inherent capacity to correct errors. Although the system consists only of a laser pulse and is thus very small, it can – in principle – eradicate errors immediately."
