A dog-like robot undergoing tests by researchers at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) could be used to detect potential radiation leaks in challenging terrain.

The CERNquadbot was tested in CERN’s cavernous North Area, which features loose wires and pipes on the ground that cannot be navigated easily by humans or wheeled robots.

The robot could be used to monitor environmental conditions as it keeps track of the laboratory's high-value, high-risk equipment in hard-to-navigate areas of the caverns.
