Drones Help Conserve Coastal Ecosystems

The researchers use aerial drones to collect valuable research data that can be used to protect coastal ecosystems.

University of Alabama (UA) student researchers have built and deployed drones as part of coastal conservation efforts.

The drones are equipped with an airborne radar system to collect data on the evaporation rate of water in the sand on Orange Beach, AL.

UA's Omid Reyhani said that this is important to “understanding the coastal ecosystem and also it helps to monitor the variation of the vegetation in the beaches and assess the health of the beaches."
