Sentiment analysis agents are designed to teach computers to comprehend the emotions expressed in text just as well as people do, and early adopters include big brand name owners. Some emotionally aware software can keep abusive comments in check in online discussions by taking down or quarantining comments that go past a predetermined abuse threshold. Other programs employ sentiment analysis to influence what people say before they pass a point of no return.

The software is capable of identifying which "good news" messages from company executives have the greatest impact on stock price. These results can then be applied toward urging certain individuals to speak out more, or less, frequently, or to measure the probable effectiveness of a planned release. Sentiment analysis tools are expected to become less costly and more broadly available.
